Insurers are using a ‘hurricane deductible’

Recently, I received a letter from my insurance provider that began something like “This will not change your policy, we do that to clarify a number of things for you.”

“True”, I thought.

He continued to say, “For example, if your house is burning and shorts wiring of your house on the ground within 24 hours between the time the National Weather Service Hurricane ends an hour in your state, your share, that the loss is significantly be increased. It is regarded as the hurricane deductible.
It was as if a company newsletters in essence policy, which states that, after a hurricane visiting any part of Louisiana, the price of gasoline would be doubled. I know that this would be illegal, ie why it is legal for insurance companies to take on its share of hurricanes, even if the harm suffered, not by a hurricane?

Conversely, if a hurricane warning or is observed in our country, I know that my insurance is not below the price of its increase in the share that I charged to wear.

And that’s the same sector is that the desire for money from the large government budget claims to us for the activity here?

GOP Can Breathe Easy About Holding Jindal’s Louisiana House Seat

Republicans face difficult times in the November election for the United States House, because some of the more than two dozen Republican seats, which have withdrawn or retired at the end of the ‘years are the main Democrat. Fortunately for Republican strategists, Louisiana’s District 1 is not among the “open” Republicans lose seats they need to sleep.

1 Louisiana’s, including in and around the New Orleans area on the north-south axis from the shore of Lake Pontchartrain, is so strong that the winners of a conservative Republican primary ballot election on Saturday - or state Sen. State Rep. Steve Scalise Tim Burns - While winning a general election, May 3rd and Republican Bobby Jindal succeed, the resignation of the 1st District in January to the seat of governor.

Gilda Democratic candidate Reed, a professor of psychology at the University of New Orleans, is a great Unterlegene in a district that President Bush gave 70 2004, and the choice was represented by the Republicans at home to the States United for over three decades.

The Republicans need a ballot selection to choose a candidate because none of the candidates in the first round of voting, March 8 has obtained a majority of votes cast. Scalise finished first, with 48.8% of the vote, followed by 28 percent by Burns and Ben Morris, a local mayor, with 21 percent.

They believe Burns Scalise conservatives and views on taxation and social policy, has insisted on supporting tax breaks and gunowners rights and the resistance against abortion and illegal immigration. With no significant difference in the field of politics, they criticized the ethics them - a strong theme in a state where Jindal was elected Governor in October last year on a platform of the Purification and corruption in the State of Louisiana. Scalise campaign has accused Burns with his office of legislation to promote his campaign, the Congress, while Burns said that Scalise is an “insider”, lies close to “special interests”.

Scalise and Burns was “very close [on the subject],” said Jeff Crouere, a former Republican Party of Louisiana Director of Policy Topic Home Ringside Radio-political agenda. “It’s only a question of ‘whose honorary ethics do you think?”

Both candidates have a geographical basis. Scalise is part of Jefferson Parish, in the most populated of the jurisdiction of the Louisiana 1’s is that the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The southern part of the 1st Takes also partly Orleans and St. Charles of Commons, including the 1st Part of New Orleans (most of which are located in the 2nd district, represented by J. Democrat William Jefferson) .

Burns is from St. Tammany Parish, which runs north of Lake Pontchartrain, and a Republican bastion. Morris, the mayor of Slidell, the back cover Burns, and should help consolidate his voice completely Burns St. Tammany. The northern part of Louisiana’s 1st in Washington and Tangipahoa municipalities in the north and west of St. Tammany.

Description of the race as “a choice between a southern Republican and a Republican north shore,” Crouere said that some residents of the south shore in the north along the shores of Hurricane Katrina in the year 2005. About 58 percent in the first round of voting Republican has come in northern shore.

“There is a sense of the northern coast of the man, who at the time of our own congress members, and this should help, Tim Burns,” said Crouere.

Since that policy CQ-Scalise graph shows the best in the North Coast (31 percent of the vote March 8) and the south shore has Burns (16 percent). Scalise campaign tries to minimize the geographic descriptions of the battle as a race.

“That’s what most of Steve’s campaign,” said Lucas Scalise spokeman Bolar. “Steve is Steve interrupted, as the most effective member Congress. Our opponent will try, as a candidate from the northern coast of the island. … He tried, the divide between the lake and Steve do not want any thing to do. ” Bolar has Scalise, added that a number of important endorsements on the southern shore.

Burns said: “We both are separated by space, the basic principles of 24 miles a lake, so it is certainly a role to play. I think the northern coast of the eye - that their parties, in particular - have been in the sub - And it went to research, in order to protect fully and completely. “

One expands panel tackling problems

A Senate committee Wednesday moved extension of the law on State property and accident insurance, in the hope that the group find solutions to the problems facing their components.

Senate Bill 153, add, nine members of the Louisiana 22 persons, damage and accidents, the Commission Terrell Moss said the director of the Committee of the Senate for insurers.

“What I have learned here is that the committee arising from no more than five members, it is not interesting, weight,” said State Senator Troy Hebert, D-Jeanerette.

Hebert said the man breathing gorges, the legislature, to see lower prices for insurance and the nature of change, how companies are making insurance companies in the state.

“There are no simple solutions, of course, because I believe that this group could have been found,” said Hebert. “I do not want public opinion, we do not try to do something.”

Senator Dan Morrish, R-Jennings, told the Commission to have some heated debates on how to bring down the price, which is debt and how changes in legislation.

This action would add representatives of non-insurance industry in Louisiana damage and accidents, including a representative of the association of public banks, the Association building and the rule of the AFL-CIO .

The Commission shall examine the availability and affordability of damage and accidents, including workers’ compensation and homeowners insurance in the state.

The Committee also supported a bill to reorganize the Louisiana Insurance Code to the Senate floor.

The department has spent two years working to reform the code, starting with the reorganization of its chapters, “said Brignac.

Senate Bill 335, the final chapter of the code to two and restructuring under Chapter 16. Brignac said, the content is unchanged, but the reorganization of the code would be more logical and easy to use.

Skilling hearing concludes with a smaller audience than expected

A hearing of the former boss of Enron, Jeffrey Skilling 5 at the US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans afternoon, under the command of an audience, as some after Hurricane Katrina insurance cases, in New Orleans.

The crowd expected the man at the hearing, Skilling, the Tribunal has established overflow premises where people listen to the proceedings on a sound system. Similar provisions overflow was necessary if high-profile Louisiana insurance cases were reported last year. But the quantity Skilling this afternoon was not large enough to the main courtyard of the overflow room, seats up to 100 persons.

Skilling, who was absent, was delayed because of conspiracy, fraud, insider trading and external auditor in May 2006. He is serving a 24 years together in a federal prison in Minnesota for his role in the decline of the once high energy, flying Houston. Skilling is his conviction is based on new evidence he believes, he will be dismissed. This complaint was the basis for consultation today.

Defender Criminal says Daniel Petrocelli Skilling’s behalf.

Although the Tribunal was not as packed as it was for a few recent insurance is a lot of cases, mainly for out-of-town journalists and observers, is still entitled to food, the distribution of seats in the courtroom hours before the hearing began. Finally, rain forced officials to the group to a waiting Hofbibliothek, where many of those socialize away to wait an hour to catch up or paperwork.

In the meantime, is also a satellite trucks and news crews were being staged outside the courthouse. The financial network CNBC News, viewers were much more promising live broadcasts from New Orleans, built a tent nearby. On the other side of the street, members of the Young Leadership Council set up the current Wednesday at the place of celebration.

Bid Time

Shortly after its entry to Lafayette General Medical Center, the staff of licensed practical nurse two years ago, Jenny David learned that the hospital has been the introduction of “offshoring commandments”, the programme would establish that nurses to offer against each other in search of work. Name “i-bid”, the proposal immediately invited to the thought of the change in their status, which is commonly called PRN, as the foundation necessary to give the one hand, it introduces more flexibility in their working as planned. trade-off, but they would lose their health insurance and other benefits.

“I sat down with my parents and have basic information [base pay over 30 per cent], what I thought I would command, and before I arrived,” says David.

Two years later, David made even more money when it was suggested, cut their high capacity to the place where most additional changes regarding their takes time and pays half. A few weeks later, she worked 24-30 hours, the other 40-48. “I do not really know much more work, when I spoke to the staff,” says 28-year-old.

For LGMC, the tender of the program has been so successful that the staff nurse, it was a year ago, to expand the respiratory therapists, and a few months ago, a medical technologists.

“It’s certainly a success,” says Cindy Angelle, the coordinator of human resources for the hospital care department. Except for dialysis, LGMC has eliminated all long term, or “daily rates” Nursing contracts’ Agency, which are very expensive, and has only two short-term contracts remain in force.

The coordinator of human resources, says i-LGMC’s was imperative creative response to stress hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the hospital staff requirements. “We had too many patients, because we had Katrina, Rita and then on the other side, and we were good in the middle,” Angelle, which plays a crucial role in the i-high in the ground.

In an effort to plug holes in its schedule for nursing staff began LGMC against each bidding for the extra work. Incitement is a percentage of the base at the beginning of the pay at the normal rate. The only hospital in other countries to follow LGMC’s, offers a program for postponement of Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, in contradiction to local hospitals, but also of the Sea allows nurses to other hospitals The bid for travel.

It is akin to offering funds. A director of an offshore vacancies - say, 7 am to 3 pm on Saturday. The open tender with 1.5 - Base pay more than 50 percent. The next bidder 1.4 Commandments, and so on up to 1.1 or basic pay plus 10 percent. On weekends are not generally below 1.5, and it is rare for a relocation true for 1.1.

The key lies in the fact that it allows nurses to project, additional layers, Angelle said. “It’s a great way to make more money, [but] by all its obligations to be fulfilled before the i-bid,” she says, and declares that each nurse has a timetable should be defined, worked first.

Jason Rogers, an ICU nurse manager seaside with 40 people below him, has seen positive changes, such as layers of increasingly filled, even though the program implemented in November.

“I have seen, employee morale go with the Shift-bid,” he said. “You are a good salary to work these layers. Before they do, unity. Sometimes they pay for their encouragement, and sometimes they are not. It would be as overtime for them. Now they know they are going to pay the premium so that they come, and with a better attitude. ”

The reaction of nurses has been positive, which occurs in units of less brief hands in recent days. “I think they want, that they should wait until I quote,” Angelle said. As you can see, where all movements are open to the clinic, people who are qualified for the work in other units, as they even more options. “Some people from other branches floors,” she adds.

Herlevic Debbie, a registered nurse from Lake 27 years, said the additional incentive to the relocation of the auction annexed encourages nurses, in order to promote additional layers, if it might not be otherwise. “Personally, I think it is well controlled,” she says. “I have participated in many of them.

And while i-bid a few problems to be solved, it is certainly not solve the main problem - that demand continues to exceed the nurses in Louisiana and throughout the country, a scenario shows that there is no signs of improvement and is projected For much worse.

The government has dismissed more than 50000 nurses, Louisiana Board of Nursing - 6000 shy about what they should have.

The lake has tried a variety of tactics to gain and keep nurses, including Sign-up bonus - a plan was abandoned after an outcry in full-time employees; LGMC did not propose Sign-Up Bonus since 1986. It is customary, but for hospitals in major markets expensive Sign-Up Bonus as much as $ 1000; Lafayette and Baton Rouge struggling Houston and Dallas, the large gap.

Program for free drugs virtually unused

Jindal opens 2008 legislative session; read text of his speech

Mr. Speaker, Mr. President, my colleagues and elected officials, members of the legislature, my wife Barbara, distinguished guests, my colleagues and Louisianians…

Three short months, we have all learned outside of this building with a lot of joy.

We all arrived with hope and the need for change. We must, at the beginning of a new administration and a new legislature in the belief that we can do better.

In just a matter of weeks, have you in the fulfilment of that hope…. They hope… in history.

We rely on our dramatic.

And we have begun to do that.

In two special sessions that have been made, much progress as legislators in many countries as a whole.

But instead of resting on this success, we are going to press.

Indeed, there are many things to do and no time to lose.

We come from many backgrounds, different communities and different political parties.

But we all agree on one central point: Louisiana is the best place in the world to start a family.

Today, the quality of life is threatened by the economic challenges… few products of neglect, some put in that separates us from global forces, we can not control.

Our governments respond to these challenges will determine the fate of Louisiana in the years ahead.

We have a good start.

We changed the image of our country, some of the most ethical reforms in the country. We vis-à-vis the Gold Standard, and indeed, our reforms we now rank on all other States of disclosure, and is among the best in almost any other category.

We sent a clear signal to the nation, Louisiana does not open only for business travellers, but we are seriously long, the reform of large… so that our youth do not leave duty and at home their dreams.

But, we did not stop more changes to the way our government.

We are again in another special session, and a tax system which weighed on the structure, had left alone too long.

We rid of taxes, investment in our country and the development of our existing businesses in Louisiana.

We have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in economic development… on priorities such as roads, bridges, ports, coasts and restoration work.

And we comprehensive, common sense reforms to spend our transportation costs for transportation needs.

We have also acted as managers of the taxpayers’ money, and with the support of future generations Louisianians using some of our debts for teachers and state employees, and investments in the maintenance and maintenance of our educational institutions.

We have every reason to be proud of what we have done.

But there is so much more to do.

We can not rest until we have another Louisiana, where every young person has the opportunity to enroll in a bid to pay up a great career start, and then you get the quality of education, access to better health care, and a family in a safe.

From day one, I promised that we work together… Republican, Democrat, North and South - because Louisianians were ambitious, we speak with one voice and state forward.

We said that we would work together… and we had.

It accused the former, fission mushrooms, politics of the past - and the people of Louisiana won.

The Monroe News said citing our work was “a success”.

And we have succeeded, despite the work of our opponents and the Pfeifkonzert the cynics.

Sceptics said that we could not the gold standard of ethics in the reform of Louisiana, but we did.

She doubted that we invest in our country, the priorities and control over expenditure, but we did.

Some have said that Louisiana has not lane change and make a new start… but we did.

And now… our recent successes in the reform of ethics and tax reform… we must move to the next stage of the preliminary… a review of our system of development of the workforce.
